Like rentals, this is another example of something that might not be a scam, but is a scam so often it needs to be addressed.
A mystery auction is when the auctioneer does not reveal to the bidders what item(s) they're bidding on. The auctioneer will either claim that the item(s) are worth a specific amount of meat or leave it completely open, claiming only that the items are 'valuable.'
The issue with mystery auctions should be obvious - you never know what you're spending your hard-earned meat on. The auctioneer may be telling the truth about their valuable items, but they may also be auctioning off 3,000 meat pastes. There's just no way to know for sure. Some mystery auctioneers run auctions this way to add a sense of fun to the auction; some do it because they don't really have anything valuable to sell.
So don't bid on a mystery auction unless you're prepared to spend your meat on nothing. Like some of the other scams in this section, let the buyer beware: we won't spend our time tracking down meat lost in a mystery auction.
